Italy stands out in several industrial sectors, and the collection and regeneration of used lubricating oils is among the country’s most successful circular economy models. The national system has achieved an exceptional 98% regeneration and circularity rate, placing Italy among the most advanced markets in Europe.
At the center of this achievement is CONOU, the National Consortium for Used Mineral Oils, which for more than forty years has represented a benchmark not only in Italy but across the European circular economy landscape. By coordinating a large network of companies and operators, the consortium has strengthened awareness and participation around an efficient model for waste oil collection and regeneration. As often happens in circular systems, innovation in one area can accelerate progress across the entire value chain.
